When it comes to social media, you either get it or you don’t. For some people, tweeting and posting about their life comes naturally. For others, pumping out content that will interest followers on a daily basis seems like an uphill battle.

As an up and coming artist, your social media presence is a pretty important part of your career. Building a fanbase is vital, and one of the best ways to do that today is through social media. Here are a few tips on how to get the most of your posts!

First off, you need to try and use each platform’s strengths. While you should be cross-promoting yourself on each social media (i.e. posting information on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.), make sure to remember each platform’s strengths and weaknesses. For example, Instagram is great for sharing promotional video clips and pictures of your daily life, but not so great for promoting shows. Twitter can help you connect with fans, while Facebook can help your fans keep track of your events.

It’s easy to just post a couple tweets and pictures and call it a day, but don’t do the bare minimum! Identify your brand and the message you want to send to your followers, then try to fit your posts into that identity. You also need to get to know your audience! It’s easy to interact with fans – old and new – on Twitter and strengthen your social media following.

Update with consistency! Even if everything you post is interesting, if you’re only posting once every week or so, your fans will quickly lose interest. Some people say there are optimal times to post, but as long as you post regularly, it doesn’t really matter if you post at specific times. You can’t really post too much on Twitter and Instagram and, when it comes to social media, more is definitely better! Try to post on these sites several times a week, if not every day.

Lastly – and this sounds obvious – try not to be boring. There’s not a nicer way to say this; if your social media posts are boring, it’s going to show and your followers will quickly disappear. So, how do you make yourself interesting? The main thing is to show off your personality. You might be worried that getting too personal on social media platforms can make you seem unprofessional, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! To connect with fans, you need to be relatable. The more personal you get on social media, the stronger your bond with your fans will be!

Using social media might not come naturally, but take some time with each platform. Decide which one works best for you and which one your fans spend the most time on, and do your best to connect! You’ll be a pro in no time.
